One little girl is determined to find her perfect pet at a
wonderfully unusual animal shelter. The Copley County Animal
Shelter has an aardvark, a lizard, a goose, a weasel, and plenty
more. But do they have a dog? Our little girl has even turned up
with a trolley to take home a dog – and she will not take
‘no’ for an answer! This hilarious subversion of the standard
you-cannot-have-a-pet trope is a wonderful read-aloud text with
repetition and build up of drama. The fun of the story could even
lead to a wider discussion about what pets it is really possible to
have.
'The Wimbledons were sleeping. It was very, very late, When Wilma
heard a spooky sound, Which made her sit up straight. "That's very
odd," said Walter. "I don't recognize the tune..." "It's only
Stanley," Walter said. "He's howling at the moon."' Whoever heard
of a dog who can sing, cook and do DIY around the house? He makes a
lot of noise and mess, but he's forgiven as does mend the TV. Not
until the very end do we, or the hapless Wimbledon family, see just
exactly what Stanley the dog has been planning all along!
Do you want to be a tree? It's easy. Pretend your arms are
branches, your body is a trunk, and your legs are roots. Then stand
in one place and see what happens! If your parent is as patient as
the dad in this story, you might get to stay outside all . . . day
. . . long! This playful story shows how entering in to the
make-believe world of a child can bring fun, empathy and
mindfulness. The build-up of amusing drama ends with the feel good
exuberance of the little girl who gets her Dad to play with her all
day, and loves being outside.
A foolish knight is certain that his side of the wall is the safe side in this clever, amusingly meta picture book by the acclaimed creator of It’s Only Stanley
There’s a wall in the middle of the book, and our hero–a young knight–is sure that the wall protects his side of the book from the dangers of the other side–like an angry tiger and giant rhino, and worst of all, an ogre who would gobble him up in a second! But our knight doesn’t seem to notice the crocodile and growing sea of water that are emerging on his side. When he’s almost over his head and calling for help, who will come to his rescue? An individual who isn’t as dangerous as the knight thought–from a side of the book that might just have some positive things to offer after all!

Little Santa loves, loves, loves the North Pole. The rest of his
family? Not so much. So, when they decide to move to Florida, Santa
is miserable. Lucky for him, a blizzard foils their plans. The only
way out of the house is up the chimney. Up goes Santa, to look for
help, and along the way, he meets a reindeer and a large group of
elves, who are more than eager to join in the rescue. (And you know
the rest of the story!)

A daring young astronaut arrives on Mars, certain he will find life
there. He has even brought a gift of chocolate cupcakes. But soon
he realises he's made a mistake as the planet seems to be totally
barren except for one little flower. However, as only the audience
can see, if only he would turn around he would meet the friendly
Martian who is always lurking shyly one step behind! As he settles
in for the journey home, he cracks open his cupcakes-only to
discover that someone has eaten them all! Fans of Oliver Jeffers
and Jon Klassen will love this slapstick adventure where the last
laugh is on our intrepid but not so clever hero.
'It's not easy getting your Lion Diploma.' So Jon Agee's little
narrator begins his hilarious description of the crash course he
took on becoming an honorary lion. At first he doesn't score high,
but when it comes to rescuing an endangered neighbourhood cat, the
lion in him is unleashed!
With the wit and read-aloud appeal of Peter Brown’s Children Make Terrible Pets and William Steig’s Pete’s a Pizza, this funny, fierce picture book teaches kids just what it takes to be a great lion
There are seven steps to becoming a proper lion, including Looking Fierce, Roaring, Prowling Around, and Pouncing. Our young hero, a rather meek and scrawny human boy, does his best to learn the necessary skills during his training with a master instructor (who just happens to be a real lion). After a grueling set of lessons, the boy discovers that that the final step—Looking Out for Your Friends—is the most important of all. That’s how any kid can earn his lion diploma (not to mention the affection of every cat in town).

A hilarious story from master of the absurd, Jon Agee, where a boy
finds out that his pet rhinoceros can do more than he bargained
for! Shortlisted for The Children's Book Award 2023. If you should
ever get a rhinoceros for a pet, you're in for a surprise. It won't
chase a ball. Or a stick. Or a frisbee. In fact, according to the
experts, a rhinoceros does only two things: pop balloons and poke
holes in kites. But don't be discouraged. As you'll discover in
this book, rhinoceroses can do more-so much more-than that!
Milo the Magnificent's magic act isn't so magnificent after all,
until he meets a bear who teaches him the secret to the perfect hat
trick in this classic and critically acclaimed picture book,
perfect for fans of Oliver Jeffers and Jon Klassen Milo the
Magnificent is the world's least magnificent magician. He can't
even pull a rabbit out of his hat! When Mr. Popovich gives him one
more chance, Milo knows he has no choice: he has to go out and
catch a rabbit for his act. Instead, he catches a bear. And the
bear promises to help! Into the hat he dives. Milo rides the train
home, sure his act will go off perfectly tonight. But when he
arrives in his dressing room, he discovers that he left his
hat--and the bear!--on the train. Meanwhile, across town, a man in
a restaurant has a very familiar hat . . . Can Milo get his hat
back in time for his act?
"Outrageous!" the judges cried. "Ridiculous!" Who would dare enter
a portrait of a duck in the Grand Contest of Art? But when Felix
Clousseau's painting quacks, he is hailed as a genius. Suddenly
everyone wants a Clousseau masterpiece, and the unknown painter
becomes an overnight sensation. That's when the trouble begins. The
concept and plot are clever and beautifully constructed with twists
and turns, and Jon Agee's trademark wit, humour and sense of the
surreal. A playful examination of what realism in art actually
means, and the difference between 2 and 3 dimensional
